Cycle Canada's Gourmet Tour de Treats

This month we pay tribute to some very important members of our bike tour support team - the bakers and pastry chefs of Canada. Cycle Canada and Tour du Canada riders are forever indebted to these hardworking individuals who provide us with the essential nourishment that sustains us on our daily outings.

Here are some unique Canadian treats, and where we recommend eating them (click on the images to get a close-up): Share

  • BeaverTails

    BeaverTails

Pastries shaped like beaver tails with lots of great toppings. When we ride into Ottawa on Canada Day on the By-Cycle Ride we'll swing by BeaverTails
  • Tarte au Sucres, Sugar Pie

    Tarte au Sucre

A Quebec classic found throughout the province but on Tour Vert and The BiQue Ride our riders recommend Premiere Moisson as a re-fuelling station.
  • Pets de Soeurs

    Pets des Soeurs

(literally translated as nun's farts). You will find these Acadian and Quebecois treats on our Tour Gaspé. Our favourites are made with maple syrup (the pastries that is).
  • Butter tarts

    Butter Tarts

Day one of Niagara Vineyards we stop at the Punch Bowl Market and Bakery. Probably the best known of Canadian treats, we like ours with pecan nuts.
  • Nanaimo Bars

    Nanaimo Bars

On our way to Haida Gwaii we'll follow the Nanaimo Bar Trail. These delicious layers of wafers, custard and chocolate originated in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
  • Blueberry Grunt

    Blueberry Grunt

A Nova Scotia specialty you'll enjoy at Bean Barn Cafe on the Cabot Trail with Tour du Canada. Grunt is the sound the berries make as they stew.
  • Cinnamon Buns Braeburn Lodge Yukon

    Cinnamon Buns

Heading up the Klondike Highway on Tour Arctic we'll stop into Braeburn Lodge for these cyclist-sized cinnamon buns
  • Flapper Pie

    Flapper Pie

Much loved by Canada's friendly Prairie folk andTour du Canada riders. The baked meringue topping makes this cream pie unique.
  • Figgy Duff

    Toutons and Figgy Duff

Two great recovery treats after you've kissed the cod in St. John's Newfoundand on Tour du Canada
  • Timbits

    Timbits

Doughnut holes from Tim Hortons found all over Canada. A traditional snack on our tours!
  • Ice Cream

    Ice Cream Cones:

Another favourite on Cycle Canada trips and Tour du Canada. We'll help you track them down on Cycle Canada Tours!
